Hostel loyalty programs are a scam for solo travelers

I stayed 12 nights at a big hostel chain in Bangkok last month to hit their 'gold' tier, thinking I'd score free breakfast or late checkout. All I got was a 5% discount on a overpriced laundry service nobody uses. The small family-run places are half the price and the owner actually remembered my name and where I left my charger. Has anyone else chased a loyalty perk and gotten completely nothing from it?
