I always thought loyalty points were the best deal, but now I'm sure cash back is way smarter for cheap trips.

Remember when cash back felt like free money for gas station snacks? I was so deep into airline points for years, trying to hit that next status level, but then I booked a flight to see my sister and the fees were more than the ticket. That's when I switched everything over to plain cash back, no more headache.

I booked a $200 hotel room last month and my plain 3% cash back card actually gave me real money back. Points would have been a hassle for something that small, cash is just simpler.
