Just read that some European hostels have free walking tours if you book directly

Found it buried in the FAQ for a place in Prague, saved me $15 a person. Anyone know other cities where hostels hide perks like that?

Check the hostel's website directly before you book anywhere. I found free pub crawls in Dublin and free pasta nights in Rome that way. Sometimes they list free city maps or kitchen welcome packs too. Always dig through their "offers" or "extras" page, the booking sites usually strip that stuff out.

Yeah, @sullivan.quinn is totally right about checking the site directly. I've even found some hostels hide discount codes for longer stays on their own "specials" page. It's a simple step that gets you way more value for the same money.

Seriously, you're all acting like this is some huge secret mission. It's just looking at a website. Sullivan.quinn makes it sound like you're hacking the mainframe to find a free plate of pasta. Most of the time it's just a tiny discount or a cheap beer token. Big deal.

Huh. I see it a bit different. Sure, checking the hostel's own site can sometimes get you an extra perk, but half the time those "free" pub crawls just mean the hostel is partnering with a bar that overcharges for drinks anyway. I booked direct with a hostel in Prague once because they advertised a "welcome dinner" and it turned out to be a cold slice of pizza and a lecture about their excursion packages. Plus, a lot of hostels don't even update their own offers page, so you end up on an outdated list from 2019. Booking sites strip some stuff out, sure, but they also have verified reviews and cancellation policies that a hostel's self-hosted page might not be honest about. I'd rather get a reliable booking with clear terms than hunt for a maybe-free bowl of pasta.
