My buddy swore by booking flights on a Tuesday at 2am for the best deals
Tried it for a trip to Denver last month and ended up staring at $600 fares at 2:15am before giving up and finding the same flight for $340 on a Thursday afternoon, so did I just get unlucky or is that whole thing a myth?

Yeah that Tuesday at 2am thing is a total myth these days. Price alerts are the way to go, hands down.

I had the same thing happen to me last year. I stayed up late one Tuesday for a flight to Chicago and it was still $500, then I checked Friday morning and got it for $280. What actually worked for me was setting price alerts on Google Flights and booking when it dropped, no matter what day or time it was. The whole Tuesday at 2am thing feels way overblown now, at least in my experience.

Set up price alerts and the universe immediately starts laughing at me. I swear the second I let Google Flights track a route the price actually goes up by $50 out of pure spite. I ended up checking the same Chicago flight three times a day for two weeks while my alerts sat there silent. Finally caught a drop at 11pm on a Wednesday while I was half asleep on the couch scrolling through my phone. The Tuesday at 2am thing is just airline marketing nonsense designed to make you feel smart for staying up late.
