Overheard a couple arguing about travel insurance at the airport gate
I was waiting for a flight to Mexico City last month and the people next to me were having a loud talk. One said travel insurance was a total waste of $75 for a short trip, while the other argued it saved them over $500 when they got sick in Lisbon. It got me thinking, is it a smart safety net or just an extra fee that eats into your budget? For those who travel light on cash, where do you stand on skipping it?

Ugh, it's not about the trip cost. That $75 could cover a $50k air ambulance bill.

See this everywhere now, people nickel and dimed on small fees while the real costs get pushed onto us later.

Man, have you ever seen someone actually need that air ambulance? My cousin slipped on a hike in Costa Rica and his insurance got him flown to a real hospital. That $75 fee suddenly looked like the best deal he ever got. It's one of those things you never think you'll need until you're in a real bind far from home. For me, skipping it just feels like playing a really risky game with your health.
