TIL I was way overpaying for airport parking thanks to a random guy at the gate
I was complaining to this guy next to me at the baggage claim in Denver about how parking at the airport cost me $28 a day for a weekend trip. He just looked at me and said 'why don't you use one of those off site lots with a shuttle?' I honestly thought they were all sketchy and took forever. But he told me about one called ParkDIA that was only $8 a day and the shuttle came every 10 minutes. I tried it last month for a 4 day trip to Chicago and it saved me $80 total. The shuttle dropped me right at my terminal door and picking up was just as easy. Has anyone else switched from on site parking to one of these lots and found a good one in another city?

Oh man, I actually read about this exact thing a few weeks back. There was some travel blog that did a breakdown of airport parking costs across the US. They said the off site lots in places like Denver and Atlanta can save you 50-70% easy. The trick is just checking reviews first for the shuttle reliability. I've been using one near LAX called LAZ Parking for a while now. It's $12 a day vs the $35 on site ones. Never had a problem with the shuttles.

actually that's a little off about the LAX one... I've used LAZ Parking there too but it's not $12 a day anymore. They raised their prices recent, it's more like $16 or $17 now depending on when you book. Still way better than the $40+ on site lots though. I think the trick with any off site lot is booking online ahead of time instead of just showing up. I made that mistake once and they charged me the drive up rate which was almost double. But yeah ParkDIA is solid, I used them once when I flew out of Denver and the shuttle wait was maybe 7 minutes tops. Just always double check the current prices on their website cause they change a lot.

ben_fisher, wait, LAZ Parking was $12 a day?! That's wild. I thought $28 at Denver was bad but $35 on site at LAX is criminal. And here I was feeling smart for finding ParkDIA at $8. Guess every city has its own secret. I'm definitely checking reviews next time I fly out of a busy airport, shuttle reliability is the dealbreaker.
