Vent: I quit staying in pricey downtown hotels
Honestly, I used to think location was everything, but staying just outside the city center with a transit pass cut my costs in half. Ngl, the extra commute was worth it for the savings and quieter neighborhoods. What's your go-to move for cutting accommodation costs?

Only works if the transit is solid though. Been burned by bad bus schedules before. Then you're just stuck far out.

Ugh, that's the worst. My buddy tried that exact plan last summer, got a cheap spot way outside the city. The bus line looked great on the map. First night out, we waited over an hour for the last bus back and it never showed. Had to split a crazy expensive taxi ride, which wiped out all the savings from the cheap room. Felt totally stranded. Never trusting a bus schedule without checking recent local complaints again.

Wow, cutting costs in half is huge. But @jones.kim describing that hostel as a broom closet with a brick wall view? That's just sad. I'd rather deal with a longer commute than stay in a place like that. Sure, transit can be a gamble, but checking bus or train lines before you go saves so much trouble. For me, finding a good apartment rental away from the center has been the best move. You get more room and quiet without spending too much.

Tried the cheap hostel route once to save cash. Ended up in a room that was basically a closet with a bunk bed. The window looked straight into a brick wall. Felt like I was paying to stay in a broom closet. My own fault for not checking the photos close enough.
