Wasted $80 on a hostel meal plan in Lisbon...

Stayed at a hostel in Lisbon called Home Hostel last month and bought their weekly meal plan for $80 upfront. Thought it would save money but half the days the kitchen was closed for private events with no warning. Ended up eating out anyway and lost about $40 worth of meals I paid for. Has anyone else gotten burned on hostel meal plans or was it just this one place?

Forty bucks stings hard, especially when you weren't expecting it. Had something similar happen with a parking ticket situation last month where I just tossed the cash without checking the meter first. The worst part is the feeling of being stupid about it, not just the money itself. At least you know for next time but still, that's a whole takeout order or a tank of gas down the drain.

That "feeling of being stupid" part hits hard, it's like the universe is taunting you for not paying attention. Reminds me of the time I left my wallet on the roof of my car and drove off, realized it two blocks later and found it smashed in the road with everything scattered like confetti.
