Finally got my grocery bill under $75 for a family of four
Switched to only buying store brands and planned every meal for seven days straight. Ended up saving $40 compared to our usual run. How do you guys keep the cost down on fresh stuff like fruit?

Hey, that's a great start. I've found the real savings on fruit isn't always the brand, it's the type. We skip berries out of season because the price is crazy. Instead, we buy bags of apples or oranges. They last longer in the bowl and the cost per piece is way lower.

Saw a thing on the local news last week about seasonal fruit pricing. They said strawberries can jump to like $8 a clamshell in winter. Totally backs up what @jamesc79 said. My fridge drawer always has a bag of clementines or some pears. They don't go bad in two days like raspberries. Feels less wasteful too.

What about frozen berries though? Honestly, @jamesc79 is right about skipping fresh ones in winter. Tbh I just grab a big bag of frozen blueberries or mango chunks. They're way cheaper and I can toss them in oatmeal or yogurt.

Frozen mango is a total game changer for smoothies, it makes them so creamy. My grocery store has these big bags of frozen pineapple chunks too, they're perfect for a quick snack straight from the freezer. It's nice not having to worry about fruit going bad before you can eat it. What's your favorite frozen fruit to eat without even thawing it?
