I finally compared my grocery list app to a paper list for 2 weeks

I ran a side-by-side test for two weeks at the Kroger on Main Street, tracking every receipt, and the paper list beat my app by $37 because I stopped impulse-buying items the app kept suggesting. The app made it too easy to add stuff on a whim, while the paper list forced me to actually think before writing it down. Has anyone else ditched a digital tool for the low-tech version and seen a real difference in their weekly total?

Ugh, the app suggestions get me every time too! I actually saw a study somewhere that said those "recommended for you" prompts are basically designed to trigger impulse buys, not save you money. I switched to writing my list on a scrap of paper a few months back and my total dropped way more than I expected, like 20 bucks a week sometimes. There's something about the physical act of crossing things off that makes you finally notice how much random junk you were adding. Plus, no notifications popping up when you're just trying to check if you need eggs.
