I thought the 'envelope system' was just for people who can't use a debit card.

My wife kept telling me to try it for our grocery and eating out money, about $800 a month total. I finally gave in last month and pulled the cash out, feeling like an old man. We're already $120 under budget with a week left, and I haven't felt broke once. Seeing the physical money leave my hand makes me think twice about every single snack run. Has anyone else had a simple trick like this actually work when you were sure it was dumb?

Hold on, are we really acting like cash is some magical life hack now? Feels like people are just looking for reasons to feel superior about how they pay for things.

Seriously, the cash-only thing shocked me too.

Oh man, I read an article that said more places are going cash only to avoid card fees. It's getting pretty common.
