Just realized my 'quick' budget spreadsheet fix took me 8 hours last Sunday

I was trying to merge two years of expense tracking into one sheet and thought it would be a 20 minute deal. Ended up spending my whole day off wrestling with formulas and broken pivot tables. Anyone else ever start a tiny finance task and watch it eat your whole weekend?

Setting up a separate 'raw data' sheet that never gets touched by formulas saved me from these rabbit holes. Keeps all the formatting and calculations clean on a separate sheet that references the untouched data. Turns a whole day into maybe an hour if I fight the urge to perfect every cell color.
