My water heater died and I actually saved money by fixing it myself

Last Tuesday my water heater started leaking from the bottom at 7am. Instead of calling a plumber I watched a YouTube video and replaced the heating element for $28. Has anyone else fixed a major appliance themselves and seen the savings add up fast?

Wait, you're telling me you could've just flushed $200 down the toilet for a plumber but instead you became a YouTube certified water heater engineer for less than thirty bucks? Bro, don't be out here exposing the whole trade like that. Next thing you know, people are gonna realize a fridge compressor is just a big loud fan and some magic gas. For real though, good on you for not getting scammed, I've seen people pay like $500 for a "diagnostic fee" and a part that costs $15 on Amazon. Just don't tell my dad I said that, he's been a plumber for 30 years and he'd lose his mind.

Hate to break it to you but that youtube fix is gonna cost triple when the real leak shows up.
