Question about that $40 rice cooker I bought at the Target on Elston
I grabbed a $40 rice cooker last November thinking it was a dumb buy because I already had a pot that worked fine. Six months in, I've made rice about 80 times and my gas bill for cooking dropped a little because I'm not babysitting a burner for 25 minutes anymore. But here's the burn part: I ran it on the same outlet as my microwave and tripped the breaker twice in one week, so I had to pay an electrician $95 to move it to a different circuit. Has anyone else bought a cheap appliance that saved time but created a whole new problem you didn't see coming?
Man, that breaker thing sounds super annoying, sorry you had to drop $95 on an electrician for a $40 rice cooker. I feel you on the cheap appliance trade off though, because saving time is great until some hidden cost sneaks up on you. At least you caught it before it messed up your microwave or the wiring for real. The gas savings and not standing over a pot for 25 minutes still sounds like a win in my book, even with the wiring headache.
