Showerthought: 5 years ago I chose a used Civic over a newer truck and it's been wild.
Back in 2019 I was dead set on financing a 2018 F-150 for $35k. My dad talked me into grabbing a 2012 Civic with 90k miles for $8k cash instead. That choice basically let me pay off my student loans within 2 years since I had no car payment. Now I'm looking at buying my first rental property because of that one decision. Anybody else make a boring car pick that ended up being a huge win?

@the_robin that dad move is really something else. I mean, it sounds like he saved you from a huge monthly payment that would've held you back for years. Not gonna lie, hearing stuff like this makes me wish I had someone to talk me out of my own bad decisions back then. The rental property plan is awesome too, that's a huge step up from where a truck would've left you. Maybe it's just me but boring cars really do feel like secret weapons for building wealth quietly.
