Spent 8 months trying to fix our grocery budget and I was looking in the wrong place the whole time.

Jump right into the meat of things. Bet you were looking at things like coupons or cutting out snacks, but really it was the big ticket items all along. That's usually what gets people. I had a buddy who'd obsess over getting the cheapest pasta and beans, meanwhile he was dropping $15 a week on name brand laundry soap and paper towels. Swap those out for generic and suddenly you're saving like fifty bucks a month without even trying. The little stuff adds up, sure, but the heavy hitters like meat, cheese, and cleaning supplies are where the real money hides.

Huh, kinda funny nobody mentioned how much of this comes down to just time and energy though. Like yeah I know generic works the same but when you're wiped after work sometimes you just grab what you know without thinking about it.

Right, because nothing says "I'm bad at budgeting" like trying to save 15 cents on beans while you're basically burning cash on name brand paper towels. Classic.

Oh man, here we go again with the bean budget police. I mean, sure, maybe some people are out here buying name brand paper towels like they're made of gold, but is it really that deep? I feel like half the time these "budget tips" just make people feel bad for buying the stuff they actually like. Like yeah, I could get the store brand paper towels and save $2, but they're basically sandpaper and I hate them. Let people live their lives without doing a full audit on their cleaning supplies.
