Stopped buying groceries at the corner store and finally saw my food bill drop
For years I grabbed milk and bread at the bodega near my house thinking I was saving time, but after I added up the receipts last month I was spending $40 more every week than if I just drove 10 minutes to a proper supermarket. Anyone else get tricked by the convenience markup?

$40 a week is $40 a week, but I think people pick their battles differently. For me, the drive and extra time to a supermarket is the real cost - I work long hours and that 20 minute round trip eats into my evening way more than the markup does. I'd rather pay the bodega premium and keep my sanity than fight for parking and wait in line just to save a few bucks on eggs and milk.

Is $40 a week really worth complaining about when you're probably wasting way more on other stuff?

Respectfully disagree. $40 a week adds up to over $2,000 a year, which is a good chunk of change for most people. Not everyone has the same budget or priorities, so calling out what they "waste" money on feels dismissive. For someone barely scraping by, $40 could mean groceries or gas for the week.
