The 3 AM receipt that showed me my real budget problem

For five straight months I tracked every dollar in a spreadsheet, but I kept blowing past my food budget by $80 or so, and I figured I just needed more willpower. Then I looked at the itemized receipts from the 7-Eleven near my apartment in Akron and realized I was buying a Red Bull and a bag of chips every single night after my shift, which added up to $94 a month. Anyone else find that their biggest money leak was a tiny recurring habit they never even thought to question?

The vending machine at my gym got me for two years before I caught it. Every workout ended with a Gatorade and a protein bar, which felt justified at the time, but that was like $55 a month just for stuff I could buy in bulk for half the price. I only noticed when my gym buddy pointed out I could just bring a water bottle and a banana from home. Swapped it out and suddenly my food budget stopped looking like a disaster. It’s wild how these little rituals hide in plain sight, like your brain just refuses to count them as real spending.
