Watched a guy at the Kroger in Dayton drop $340 on one cart of groceries, and it scared me straight
I was behind him in line last Tuesday and he swiped his card three times before it went through, then just stared at the receipt. That night I went home and finally added up what my own weekly trips were costing me, and it was $212 a week for two people. How do you all keep the grocery bill from creeping up when everything just keeps getting more expensive?
Man, I felt this. My sister in law does the thing where she only shops the outer ring of the store, produce and meat and dairy, and swears it saves her a fortune because she never walks down the snack aisles. I tried it for a month and somehow still spent the same, because I just bought extra meat to make up for it. The part that got me in your post is the receipt stare, because I do that too now and I never used to. What finally helped me was going to the store with a list and a hard cash limit, once the cash is gone that's it. Sounds dumb but handing over actual bills hurts more than swiping a card.
