Appreciation post: a landlord in Cleveland gave me 5 extra days on rent and it saved my store
Three years back I was running a small hardware store on West 25th and cash was so tight I couldn't make the $2,800 rent on the first. I called my landlord, a guy named Sal who owned the building since the 80s, and he just said to get it to him by the fifth, no late fee. That five day gap let a contractor's check clear so I could pay him and still make payroll that Friday. Now I own two spots and I always give new tenants the same grace, because Sal never once asked me why. Any other owners here had a landlord cut them slack like that, or was I just lucky?
