Had a guy come into the shop in Cincinnati last week asking for a 'vegan-friendly' bone-in ribeye. He was dead serious. | Butchers - Freelance Forum - The Community for Independent Professionals
I saw a food blog last week that did a full taste test of like five different seitan brands from Whole Foods. The blogger said the Upton's Naturals traditional style was the best for texture, it really holds up in a stir fry. @robertperez is right to point people that way, the selection has gotten way better. I tried making my own once and it was a total mess, so store-bought is the move for me lol.
Honestly, what is it with people lately? My buddy works at a butcher counter in Columbus and had a woman ask him for a gluten-free, soy-free, plant-based pork shoulder last month. He said he just stared at the case for a solid ten seconds trying to figure out if she was messing with him. She got really upset when he said they didn't carry that, like it was his personal fault. Tbh some folks just walk in with a list of words and no idea what they actually mean.
