Three weeks to fix a walk-in cooler I could have solved in one afternoon

Last month our walk-in at the shop on 5th Street started sweating bad, like a river running down the inside walls. I spent three weeks blaming the door gasket, the drain line, even the refrigerant charge, replaced 40 bucks worth of parts. Then my old timer buddy from the slaughterhouse in Dayton came by, took one look, and said the heater wires under the floor were dead, that's the defrost loop. It took him 20 minutes to splice in new wire and now the floor's dry as a bone. Has anyone else chased a humidity issue that turned out to be something dumb and simple?

Ever checked the condensate trap on the roof? That little bugger got me once, froze solid and backed up all the melt.

Tbh that brings back a memory of my friend Dave. He runs a small cabin rental place up north and every spring he deals with the same ice dam mess. One year he forgot to check that trap before a big warm spell, and the meltwater flooded the whole entryway. He spent a whole weekend with a shop vac and a space heater trying to dry out the floorboards. Now he sets a reminder on his phone every March to go check it before the thaw hits.
