Took me 2 weeks to figure out why my sausage casings kept splitting
Honestly I was losing my mind over this for 14 days straight. Every batch of links I stuffed kept blowing out on me, especially the sheep casings, and I was ready to blame the supplier. Turned out my stuffer was running way too cold because I had it sitting near the back door of the shop in February. Once I moved it closer to the front and let the meat warm up just a bit before stuffing, not one casing split in 40 pounds. Anyone else run into weird temp issues with their stuffer depending on where it sits in the shop?
Two weeks of casings blowing out would have me questioning my whole life, not just the stuffer. Mine sat right under the AC vent one summer and I couldn't figure out why my hog casings felt like rubber bands. Moved it six feet away and the splits stopped cold, so yeah, location matters way more than people admit. The warm up trick you mentioned is the real fix too, cold meat is what does the damage when it hits the tube.
