Appreciation post: My old boss in Cincinnati taught me a trick for scribing that saved a huge job

We had a kitchen install with a stone wall that was way out of plumb, maybe an inch and a half over 8 feet. For years I'd fight with a compass and it never looked right. He showed me to use a small block of wood with a pencil taped to it, running it along the wall to transfer the exact contour to the cabinet side. It made the fit perfect on the first try. Does anyone have a different scribing method they swear by for tricky spots?

Honestly that seems like overkill for most jobs. A good carpenter can usually fudge it with some creative trim work. People act like every gap needs to be a perfect museum fit.

Fudge it with creative trim work" is how you end up with a door that looks like it was framed by a kindergartener with a glue gun. I've seen those "fixes", quarter round slapped over a half inch gap like a bandaid on a broken leg. Next thing you know the whole trim is just a lie hiding a bunch of bad cuts.
