My brand new domino joiner stripped out after just 15 cuts on a job in Nashville

Was building a walnut media cabinet yesterday and the cutter head just locked up mid plunge, has anyone else had this happen with the 500 series or did I just get a lemon?

Has anyone checked if the plunge depth stop screws were maybe torqued down too tight from the factory? I stripped out a Festool router base once because it was overtightened from the get-go, and it made me wonder if their quality control is slipping lately. My buddy had a similar issue with his 500 series joiner, and it turned out to be a burr on the gear teeth that just needed a light file pass to fix.

Wait wait wait, a BURR on the gear teeth? That's crazy. You just file it down and it works perfect again? I'm honestly shocked they'd let something like that slip through. I've had Festool stuff for years and always thought their QC was bulletproof, but hearing about stripped router bases and gear burrs makes me wonder if they're rushing things out the door. Your buddy got lucky he caught it before it wrecked the whole machine.

15 cuts on a walnut media cabinet sounds more like a bad batch than a widespread issue, @juliaa65. I've beat up my 500 on way harder jobs without a hiccup. People act like a burr on a gear tooth is the end of the world but it's a 5 minute fix if you catch it early.
