Vent: My router bit slipped and gouged a finished cabinet door last week

I was doing a final pass on a set of maple doors in my shop, using a 3/8-inch roundover bit. The router was running fine, but then it just jumped and cut a deep groove right across the face. I stopped everything and just stared at it for a minute. I ended up having to sand the whole door down past the gouge and re-stain it, which added about three hours to the job. Has anyone else had a bit slip like that, and what's your go-to fix for a deep scratch in finished wood?

Check the router collet for sawdust buildup. That tiny bit of grit can make the whole bit walk out on you.

Was the router table fence locked down tight?
