A customer called me out for lazy cable bundles and it stung

Last Tuesday in Phoenix, a guy pointed at my zip ties and said "you're just making it worse for the next guy." I started leaving service loops on every drop and it's saved me at least 2 callbacks since then. Anyone else get humbled by a homeowner who knew their stuff?

They said 'those same guys who skip service loops are usually the ones who complain about the job taking too long.' I get the point, but I actually see it a bit different. Sometimes skipping a service loop isn't about being lazy or not caring about the next guy. It's about tight spaces or old boxes that are already packed. I've been in spots where adding a service loop means you can't even close the cover back on the box. Not everything that looks messy is done by some jerk who doesn't think ahead. Sometimes you're just making the best call in a bad situation, and a homeowner doesn't always see that.

Yeah that homeowner did you a favor. Leaving service loops is basic stuff but plenty of guys skip it. I've seen techs spend an extra hour fighting a rats nest because somebody didn't leave slack.

Those same guys who skip service loops are usually the ones who complain about the job taking too long too. Why are some techs so allergic to spending two extra minutes on something that saves everyone a headache down the road? Is it really that hard to think ahead or do they just not care about the next guy at all?
