A guy in Dayton swore his toner would find a break through 2 feet of concrete, and I laughed at him
Turns out he meant the buried drop outside, not the wall, and that $90 Fluke saved me from trenching 40 feet in the rain last Thursday. Anybody else got a tool that does one thing way better than you gave it credit for?
Learned this the hard way last summer when my neighbor borrowed my cheap wire tracer to find a sprinkler line and got nothing but static. Turns out the thing was picking up the metal valve bodies instead of the wire itself, and he had it set wrong the whole time. Tools like that don't fail because they can't do the job, they fail because I never read the manual past page two. My lesson was that half the "magic" everyone brags about is just matching the tool to the right material before you start digging. So yeah, credit the Fluke, but credit whoever actually read the directions too.
