That fiber splice test from a grumpy veteran changed my whole setup
An old timer in Dayton told me my OTDR readings were worthless unless I tested both directions and averaged them, took me a week to realize he was right. I had been chasing ghosts on a 400-foot drop for two hours, now I never trust a single direction. Anyone else run into techs who skip the second test?

Remember the dead zone after the connector. That old timer probably forgot to mention it. If you dont use a launch box or a long enough fiber, the first 30 or 40 feet of your trace is garbage. So testing both ways is only half the fix. You need to clean those ends and add a launch coil too. Otherwise you are still chasing ghosts, just in both directions instead of one.
