The switch from RG6 to RG11 has been wild in older neighborhoods

I've been noticing a huge before and after difference in signal strength since we started using RG11 on long runs in the old parts of town. Over the last 6 months, I'd say about 40% of my trouble calls have been from houses built before 1980 where the original cable just can't handle modern speeds. Has anyone else seen a big drop in rework tickets since making the switch?

Old houses are ALWAYS the wild card in everything, not just cable. We remodeled our kitchen and the previous owner had done some DIWHY wiring that made zero sense. It's like these older buildings were built with the attitude that technology would never change. RG11 is probably saving you a ton of headaches since those long runs are basically fighting physics from the start.

Old houses are always the wild card" is exactly right. I used to think coax was coax and it didn't matter much, but after helping a buddy run cable in his 1920s place I completely changed my mind. We fought with signal drop for two days before realizing we needed better shielding just to get through the old plaster and lathe walls. That RG11 upgrade is probably the difference between a working signal and pixelated nothing on the long runs.

And it really makes you wonder how much of our daily frustration comes from patching old stuff together instead of just starting fresh. You see it everywhere, not just in houses but with cars, phones, even the way people insist on keeping outdated software running. Sometimes fighting the old way costs more time and energy than just admitting it's time for a clean slate.
