Wasted $400 on a fancy toner probe - shoulda stuck with my old one

Bought one of those high-end toner and probe kits from Greenlee about 6 months ago. Thought it would save me time on tracing lines in those messy apartment buildings. First week it started giving false beeps on dead pairs and I ended up cutting the wrong coax twice. Anyone else run into this or did I just get a lemon unit?

Bought one of those expensive Klein kits a while back. Buddy of mine got the same one, swore by it for like a month. Then he was tracing a run in an old office building and it started screaming on a line that was totally dead. He ended up pulling the wrong bundle and had to reterminate like 20 jacks. Sent that thing back real quick.

Probably just a fluke with that one unit.

That story about it screaming on a dead line is wild. Makes me wonder if some of these tools have a hard time filtering out interference from old building wiring or something, not just a straight up defect.
