Got a Konica off a guy at a flea market in Tulsa for $5 and the shutter was stuck open, now I can't decide if I was lucky or dumb
I was walking the booths at a flea market in Tulsa back in March when I spotted a Konica Auto S2 sitting in a shoe box with a $5 tag on it. The seller said it came from his uncle's attic and he had no clue if it worked. When I got it home the shutter was stuck wide open on B, so I soaked the blades in naphtha, worked them with a toothpick, and it's been clicking fine for three months now. My buddy says fixing a $5 camera is a waste of a Saturday, but I say every stuck shutter teaches you something. Do you all bother with cheap yard sale bodies or do you only take on gear worth real money?

Used to be pretty snobby about only messing with gear that had actual value, but that was mostly because I was scared of breaking something expensive. Fixing up a cheap body like that Konica honestly teaches you more than any YouTube video, and you can't really mess up a five dollar camera... worst case it stays broken. Your buddy is looking at the money and missing the whole point, which is that you now know how to unstick a shutter and that skill sticks with you.

That line about being scared of breaking something expensive hits home. I stuck to cheap bodies for like two years for the same reason and honestly those are the ones where I actually learned stuff. Worst case it stays broken is exactly right, you can't lose on a five dollar camera.
