I finally got hit by a spring-loaded shutter in Portland

Three years ago I was cleaning a Pentax K1000 in my shop near the Pearl District and didn't pin the curtain drum before lifting the plate. That thing shot across the room and smacked my cheek, left a bruise for a week. Last Tuesday a customer brought in the same body and I nearly did it again, caught myself right before the clip released. Now I always tape the drum before touching any screw, even on simple CLA jobs. Anyone else have a close call with a pre-tensioned part like that?

Pre-tensioned springs are basically tiny landmines, cameras just happen to hide them better than most stuff. I've started treating every repair like a trap and honestly it makes the whole day less stressful.
