I finally went back to a brass focus wrench after a decade of plastic

Last week I was fixing a stuck helicoid on a vintage Pentax Spotmatic and my plastic wrench just snapped clean in half. Three years ago I would have just ordered another plastic one but I found an old brass wrench in my mentor's toolbox from the 70s and it worked perfect. Has anyone else noticed the new tools just don't hold up like the old ones?

Yeah man, they definitely skimped on the alloy quality these days to save a buck.

That "snapped clean in half" part hit home. Same thing happened to me last year with a plastic spanner on a Leica lens. The old brass stuff might have a little more play in the threads, but it never bends or cracks. Makes you wonder what kind of metal they're mixing in these days.
