Just hit 500 shutter replacements on my bench log and it got me thinking about the old days
I keep a paper notebook of every job that crosses my bench and flipped to a page this morning that put me at number 500 for shutter work alone. Twenty two years ago I did my first one on a beat up Pentax in my garage in Sacramento with a screwdriver I stole from my dad's toolbox. Back then I could get parts from three different shops within driving distance, now most of those places are gone and I'm pulling donors off auction sites. The tools changed too, I used to do everything with a spanner set and a lot of swearing, now I have a scope that plugs into my laptop. Half the cameras I see now are mirrorless with shutters rated for 200k clicks, so the repair is more about boards than springs. Any of you old timers keep a log like this, and do you count jobs or hours?
