Pro tip: I just hit my 50th fixed shutter on a specific old Nikon model and the number felt wrong

Everyone talks about volume like it's the goal, but hitting that mark just made me feel like a parts replacer, not a real fixer... has anyone else felt that way after a big count?

Doesn't that number just mean you've been lucky enough to dodge the real brain-melters that don't have a pattern at all? I'd rather be a parts replacer with a clean record than the go-to expert stuck with every cursed camera on the block.

What if the count is proof you're the go-to expert now? That number means you've seen every weird problem that model can have. Feeling like a parts replacer misses the point of all that hard-earned pattern recognition.

Exactly, and like @andrew_shah said, that number shows you can fix the stuff the manual never covers.

Honestly I used to just count the jobs but you're right, that number is proof you know the real weird stuff.
