Solder bridged a flex cable, then chose to lie about it instead of owning up
On a Canon AE-1 shutter rebuild in Pittsburgh, I crossed two traces on the flex. Customer sent it back a week later, dead. I blamed a faulty part. They found the bridge and sent me a photo, now I'm wondering, is admitting a mistake worse than the mistake itself for business?

Man, keeping quiet about a tiny solder bridge is just good business sometimes. Customers don't want the gory details, they want their camera working and they want to trust you. If you confess every slip, word gets around that you're sloppy, even if you fix it for free. Think about a plumber who nicks a pipe and patches it, does he call the homeowner and stress them out? A restaurant that drops a steak on the floor and cooks a new one doesn't announce it either. The lie only blew up because the repair failed, not because you stayed quiet. Own it now that you got caught, but acting like honesty is always the best policy ignores how the real world works.
