Warning: A customer in Denver insisted I was wrong about using isopropyl alcohol on mirror foam

He said his 'uncle who worked at Kodak' told him to use lighter fluid instead, which would ruin the seals. Has anyone else had to correct this specific bad advice?

People get so worked up over this stuff. It's just some guy's uncle giving bad advice, not a factory manual. Lighter fluid might not be great, but is it really going to destroy everything on contact? Probably not. The foam would likely just degrade a bit faster. Sometimes the "correct" method gets treated like a religion.

Watch people treat random tips like gospel truth all the time. It's this weird mix of wanting a simple fix and trusting a personal story over basic facts. Then we all end up confused when the easy shortcut makes the real problem worse.

Honestly, that's a new one for me. I once had a guy try to tell me the best way to cut a branch was with a butter knife because his cousin was a chef. Some of this advice just comes out of nowhere. Lighter fluid on mirror foam sounds like a great way to make a bigger, more expensive problem.

That butter knife story from @anthonyrivera is a classic. People just love sharing the weirdest "expert" advice they've heard. Next they'll tell us to polish our cars with sandpaper because their neighbor's a carpenter.
