Hit 500 nights in my hammock and my tent still looks brand new

I just crossed 500 nights sleeping in my hammock setup over the last 4 years. My old tent barely has 20 nights on it since I switched. Kinda crazy how much gear you end up not using once you find what works. Anyone else got a piece of gear that's been sitting in the closet for years?

Yeah that hits home hard for me too. @hernandez.gavin I feel your pain, my old MSR stove has been staring at me from the shelf for going on four years now with its canisters still sealed.

Man I got a backpacking stove that's basically a museum piece at this point. Bought it on clearance three years ago thinking I'd be some ultralight chef on the trail. Hasn't seen fire once. I even bought those fancy fuel canisters thinking they'd get used. They're just sitting there judging me every time I open the gear closet. At this point I'm thinking of framing the stove and calling it "modern art: the illusion of preparedness.

Oh man, that title alone is worth framing. But here's something you might not have thought about: those fuel canisters actually have a shelf life. The seals can dry out and leak over time, especially if they're sitting in a hot garage or basement. I learned that the hard way when I finally tried to use an old one and it barely hissed. So honestly, you might be saving yourself a headache by not trying to fire that thing up after three years. Your stove could be doing you a favor by staying pretty.
