I finally realized my tent's rainfly was on backwards for 3 years

Was setting up at Horseshoe Lake last weekend and a guy walks over and points out the vents were facing into the wind instead of away. Water was pooling on my vestibule every time it rained and I thought that was just normal. Has anyone else had a gear setup epiphany like that after years of doing it wrong?

Yeah I used to think rainfly direction was just aesthetic, figured a bag was a bag. Then I spent a miserable night at Eagle Lake with water dripping on my face and realized my fly was backwards the whole time. Changed my whole setup routine after that, never assuming it's "fine" just because it fits.

Counted myself lucky that night that at least it was my face and not my sleeping bag getting dripped on.

Ugh that Eagle Lake drip scenario is the worst, I've been there with a totally soaked sleeping bag and it's just brutal. I feel your pain on that one, definitely a lesson you only learn the hard way.
