I finally realized why my tent was always damp in the morning
For years I thought it was just normal condensation until a park ranger in Asheville pointed out I was pitching it under a huge pine tree. The lack of airflow was the real problem, not the weather. Anyone have a good spot for a two-person tent that avoids this?

Yeah, anna_price69 is right about flat spots away from trees. I look for a little rise in the ground, even just a few inches, to help with airflow and drainage.

Oh man, that's the classic rookie mistake right there. I mean, we've all done it, thinking the tree is like a cool natural umbrella. Turns out it's just a giant dampness machine all night long. Good on that ranger for spelling it out. Honestly, just find a flat spot that's as far from tree trunks as you can get, even if it feels a little more open.

Actually, a little pine needle cover can be a great insulator against the cold ground.
