Just checked the weight on my old coleman stove vs a new one and wow

I was packing for a trip up to the Sierras this weekend and grabbed my old dual burner coleman stove from like 2006. Out of curiosity I weighed it on my bathroom scale and it came in at 12 pounds even. Then I looked up the spec on a newer version of the same model online and it said 7.2 pounds. That's almost 5 pounds lighter for basically the same burner output (I think they both put out like 20,000 BTUs). I had no idea materials had changed that much in 15 years. Has anyone else noticed how much lighter newer two-burner stoves are now?

Yeah but you're missing something. That old stove is built like a tank. It'll survive getting tossed in a truck bed for another 15 years. The new ones? They shave weight by using thinner metal and cheaper plastic parts. I've seen the legs snap off a buddy's new Coleman after one season. My 2005 model still works perfect. Weight savings don't mean much when the thing breaks on day 3 of a trip.

That 'built like a tank' thing is real. I had an old two-burner that I dropped off a tailgate onto concrete, and it just got a dent while the new ones I see crack cases if you look at them wrong. My solution was buying a used one from a flea market that's probably older than me, and it's been kicking for five seasons without a single issue.
