My $80 tent pole broke on night two, now I carry a repair sleeve
Last month out near Table Rock Lake, a gust caught my cheap dome tent and snapped one of the aluminum poles right at the ferrule. I had no spare, so I spent the next two nights sleeping half propped up against a cooler while rain pooled in the sag. After that trip I bought a pack of pole repair sleeves for like $12 and threw one into my bag. It's not a full fix for a clean break, but it would have made that trip bearable instead of miserable. Have any of you had luck with DIY splints like duct tape and a stick, or do you just carry a full spare pole set now?

Ha, you're way overthinking this! A $2 stick and a roll of duct tape from the gas station would've done the same job. Plus now you've got a cool story about the cooler pillow, that's worth way more than twelve bucks.
