My Coleman lantern was leaking fuel until I tried a trick with a zip tie

Honestly, I was about to toss my old Coleman dual-fuel lantern after it started leaking from the pump assembly. Tbh, I saw a video where a guy cut a small piece of a plastic zip tie and used it as a replacement O-ring. I tried it last weekend, and it sealed right up. Has anyone else fixed gear with random stuff from their pack?

Actually, that zip tie trick is more of a temporary field fix than a long term solution. The plastic isnt as flexible as real rubber and it can get brittle with heat over time. You should really order the proper O-ring kit for that pump assembly, they're cheap and will last. Its awesome that it got you going for now though, that kind of quick thinking saves trips.

Try using a bit of bike tire for a bigger gasket next time.

Nice! I've used a bit of inner tube rubber as a makeshift gasket on my stove before. It's amazing what you can fix with a little junk drawer creativity. That lantern should run for years now.
