My old foam pad versus a new inflatable one on a cold night in the Rockies

Went up near Estes Park last month. Brought my old blue foam pad from college. Also packed a new inflatable pad I got on sale. The foam one felt okay at first. But around 3 AM, the cold from the ground came right through. The inflatable one kept me warm all night. Anyone else switch from foam and notice a huge difference?

That cold ground feeling is the worst. My buddy once tried using a car sunshade as a pad, said he woke up feeling like a human popsicle.

Honestly, the "cold from the ground came right through" line gave me flashbacks. Tbh my old foam pad was basically a fancy yoga mat that let every single rock and chill say hello. Upgrading felt like swapping a cardboard box for an actual bed. Ngl, I didn't realize I was basically sleeping on the ground until I wasn't.

I mean @the_julia, it's just a foam pad, how bad could it really be?
