Swapped my inflatable pad for a closed cell foam one after a freezing night in the Alleghenies
I woke up shivering at 2 AM with my Therm-a-Rest deflated from a tiny leak I couldn't find in the dark. Has anyone else gone back to the old foam pads for reliability even if they're bulkier?

Totally feel you on that one man, nothing worse than waking up cold because your pad gave out. I went through the same thing last year on a trip in Colorado, had to sleep on pine needles after my inflatable sprung a leak. Switched to a Z Lite Sol and honestly, the extra bulk on my pack is worth not worrying about punctures anymore. Plus I've learned to just strap it to the outside and move on.

I mean, I'd rather just carry a small patch kit and my inflatable, the bulk on my pack drives me nuts.

Totally agree on strapping it outside, casey342 - I did the same after a leaky night in the Smokies and never looked back.
