My uncle swears by his kerosene lamp, but it once set his tent on fire.

Those old lamps are basically fire hazards waiting to happen. Modern LEDs are way safer for tents.

Yeah but that's part of the point for me. You have to be careful, like you're actually dealing with something real. Abby_murphy's story is a good lesson, but that's on him for being careless. A well-maintained fuel lamp is perfectly safe if you know what you're doing. LEDs feel too sterile, like you brought your kitchen light outside. The whole ritual of lighting it, the smell, the soft hiss, that's camping.
