Took me 3 hours to set up a tent I'd slept in 50 times before

I've got a Kelty Grand Mesa 4 that I've used for years. I know that tent inside and out. Last weekend I drove up to Green River State Park and it was pouring rain when I got there. I was sopping wet and trying to rush, and I ended up threading the poles wrong three times. Three hours I was out there in the rain, cussing at a tent I've set up in the dark before. Finally got it up and everything inside was already damp. Has anyone else had a piece of gear they know turn into a total disaster in bad weather?

Man I feel that, same thing happened to me with my old REI tent last fall in the wind!

Did you read that Outside Magazine article about how rain makes your brain work worse? Something about the noise and cold messing with your focus. I swear that's what happened to me last year with my MSR Hubba. Set it up a hundred times in perfect weather, then one night in a thunderstorm at Capitol Reef and I had the footprint upside down for twenty minutes. Makes you feel like a total rookie even though you know what you're doing.

makes you feel like a total rookie" - yeah, but rain actually changes sound frequencies too, throws off your spatial awareness.
