Dropped $2,400 on a coding bootcamp in Chicago and got nothing but a certificate and a Slack channel
I need to warn everyone about this because I'm still mad about it. About 18 months ago I paid $2,400 for a 12-week part time bootcamp that promised job placement help and a portfolio. What I actually got was pre recorded videos from 2019, a TA who answered maybe one question out of five, and a private Slack where the career coach posted the same three job boards every Friday. The placement rate they bragged about on the sales call? Turns out they counted anyone who got any job, including one guy who went back to his old warehouse gig. I finished the thing in March and applied to 74 jobs before I landed anything, and the job I got came from a friend of a friend, not the school. If I had taken that $2,400 and spent $200 on a couple of solid books plus $50 a month on a real tutor, I'd have been miles ahead. So before you sign up for any program that wants thousands upfront, ask for the actual names of people who got hired in the last six months and call them yourself. Has anyone here had a bootcamp actually deliver on the job help, or is that just marketing across the board?
