I always thought volume was the answer, but after tracking every call in a spreadsheet for 30 days I realized it was the timing of my follow-ups that actually mattered, has anyone else noticed a specific number change how they work?

Actually the timing thing is interesting but I think you might be overlooking something. A lot of people forget that the quality of the call itself matters just as much, like if you're rushing through a script or not listening to their actual needs it doesn't matter when you call. Spreadsheets are great for tracking but they can also trick you into thinking one variable is the whole puzzle.

Respectfully gotta push back here... you're making it sound like call quality and timing are separate things but they're really not. A bad call at the right time still fails, sure, but a great call at the wrong time usually does too because the person's brain is somewhere else. Spreadsheets aren't trying to trick you, they're just showing you one piece of a bigger picture. Timing and quality work together, not against each other.

That stat about 80% of sales going to the first responder still holds up in most industries I've tracked. You're right that timing and quality work together, but I'd argue timing is the gatekeeper. A perfect pitch at 4 PM on a Friday when someone is wrapping up their week won't get heard at all. Quality only matters if the call lands when the person can actually focus. Spreadsheets show that split, and it's not one piece of the puzzle - it's the order the pieces need to go in.
